Night of pride at pageant

2013-12-17 00:00

IT was a night of glamour, talent and pride as the Gay & Lesbian Network in Pietermaritzburg hosted the Mr and Ms KZN pageant at the Royal Showgrounds on Saturday.

After three rounds of judging, which saw the contestants parade in swimwear and evening wear and showcase their talents in song, dance and poetry, Nicole Mlambo (28), from Inchanga, and Shaun Stander (31), from Durban, clinched the Ms and Mr KZN titles.

The pageant also observed a minute’s silence in honour of former president Nelson Mandela and all those present sang the national anthem.

A condolence book was on offer for everyone to write messages of condolences and inspiration.

The pageant was the high point of the week-long Pink Mynah Festival in the city, which included film screenings, workshops, talks and a community fair.

The winners of the Ms and Mr KZN pageant will get involved in community projects and serve as ambassadors for the Gay & Lesbian Network. They will also assist in organising the Pink Mynah Festival in 2014. publishes all comments posted on articles provided that they adhere to our Comments Policy.
