No Edward, it’s all about sex

THE stars of the sex-fuelled TV vampire series True Blood have posed bloody and naked for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, and the show’s creator has gone for the jugular of the hugely popular Twilight teen-cult series for being ‘‘sexless’’.

Stars Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer stripped completely for the shoot, and Paquin and Moyer were candid in their views of vampire sex.

“If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn’t one before,” says Moyer, who plays an undead Southern Civil War Veteran.

“It’s a de-virginisation — breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. And there’s something sharp, the fang, which is probing and penetrating and moving into it. So that’s pretty sexy. I think that makes vampires attractive.”

Paquin says of being pierced, although not by fangs: “I’ve had 10 piercings in my ear, and a bellybutton pierce, and a tongue ring. My tongue, as it turns out, is not really appropriate for piercing, because the webbing is too close to the front, and the bottom barbell kept hitting against my teeth — clank, clank, clank. And it gave me a lisp, which isn’t great as an actress.”

The creator of the show Alan Ball says, with reference to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series: “The idea of celibate vampires is ridiculous. To me, vampires are sex. I don’t get a vampire story about abstinence.”

Meyer is a Mormon and in her books the vampires have to abstain from sex with their human counterparts so as not to kill them.

Ball isn’t afraid of alienating the core teenage audience that is drawn to the Twilight projects.

“I’m 53,” says Ball. “I don’t care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed.”

Rolling Stone reports that “On [True Blood], every available orifice is used for intercourse: gay, straight, between humans and supernatural beings, and supernatural being on supernatural being, whether he be werewolf, dog or an enormous Minotaur-looking being called a maenad. None of the sex is quite as good as vampire sex, though, which can happen at the astonishing rhythm of 120 bpm, while simultaneously devouring one’s neck and making your eyes roll back into your head.”
