No KZN Inland players in SA hockey squad

2009-09-03 00:00

THE SA hockey selectors have named 27 players to be part of the growth and development programme in the country, writes JONATHAN COOK.

This squad is made up of both young players who are in the running for eventual selection to the SA team, as well as experienced players, some of whom are former national players. From a KZN Inland perspective, no players from this province were included and it is surely of major concern.

Inland ended fifth at IPT and of arguably their most promising players, Duzo Khanyile, Dalan Phillips and Karl Oftebro, none got the nod from SA convenor of selectors Mike Bechet, head coach Gregg Clark, Rob Pullen or Mo Malatjie.

This leaves midfielder Tommy Hammond as the only Inland player in the SA team.
