No Modise or Cale for Bafana

2009-09-17 00:00

BAFANA Bafana coach Joel Santana has named a 22-man squad of local based players to face Madagascar in Saturday’s international friendly at the GWK Stadium in Kimberly.

Franklin Cale of Ajax Cape Town and Teko Modise of Orlando Pirates were originally in the squad, but have since been withdrawn after their clubs reported that the players were injured.

Announcing the squad yesterday, Santana said he is continuing to keep the core of the team, but at the same time giving an opportunity to other players as an indication that any player can still make the World Cup squad.

“We encourage players to work hard and to be consistent in their teams, we are monitoring all players hence the inclusion of a few new players in the Bafana Bafana set-up,” said Santana.

Bafana travelled to Kimberley on Thursday, and coach Santana will hold a media briefing in the afternoon before taking the players through their paces on Friday morning.
