No hitch as hospital switches off

2010-06-28 00:00

DESPITE reports of a power outage at Edendale Hospital yesterday, the medical centre appeared to be functioning without a hitch.

Short admission queues and a tidy environment greeted visitors to the hospital, contrary to the chaos that was predicted when reports of electricity problems surfaced yesterday morning.

Edendale Hospital CEO Zanele Ndwandwe explained that the temporary loss of power was a planned shutdown. “It was simply the second phase of a planned shutdown for routine maintenance and upgrades,” she said.

“Our emergency power supply remained on at all times. We could not compromise on service delivery,” she added.

Ndwandwe described the shutdown as “uneventful”, adding that it was well managed. She stressed that the entire process had been supervised by the district engineer, and all necessary steps were taken to ensure patients were not compromised.
