No judgment yet in farm murder case

2014-11-14 00:00

JUDGMENT is under way in the Pietermaritzburg high court in the case of two men charged with bludgeoning Underberg resident Dan Knight to death on Outlook farm on October 17 last year.

Tsepiso Sthembiso Ramonyane (20) and Bonginkosi Eric Nyawose (33) are also charged with robbing Knight and his partner of 18 years, Beth Bucher.

The attack took place on the eve of Knight’s 56th birthday.

Bucher witnessed the brutal murder of Knight at the hands of four men who burst into the couple’s home on the night in question after she had opened the scullery door for her dogs and left it unlocked.

She could not identify any of the assailants, whose faces were covered by balaclavas.

Bucher was also tied up with cable ties and viciously assaulted by the attackers, three of whom were later arrested.

Judge Jerome Mnguni, sitting with one assessor, previously acquitted one of the three men charged in connection with the incident, Happy Gcina (24).

On Wednesday he began summarising and evaluating the evidence led in the case against the remaining two accused — Ramonyane and Nyawose.

Both men pleaded not guilty.

The court had not arrived at any conclusions when judgment was halted yesterday. It will resume today.
