No mercy for drunk drivers, says Cele

The Kwa-Zulu Natal Transport Department has warned motorists on the province’s roads this Easter: drunk driving will not be tolerated.

The focus for this year’s campaign, which will end on May 3, is on public transport, because 49% of the deaths on KZN roads are passenger fatalities.

“A number of multi-disciplinary roadblocks have been planned and no mercy will be shown to offenders,” said Transport MEC Bheki Cele. “Our mobile brake testing machine will be used extensively over this period to remove unroadworthy vehicles from our roads.”

He urged the public to report traffic violations to the Mpimpa hotline: 086 221 1010.
