No news yet on Cwele’s employment

SUSPENDED Hibiscus Coast municipality health services director Sheryl Cwele will soon know the verdict on her employment.

Municipal spokesperson Simon Soboyisa said yesterday they were “anticipating” a verdict by the end of the day, but no announcement was made by the time of going to press.

Submissions on mitigating and aggravating factors were presented by Cwele and the municipality after a disciplinary hearing found her guilty of misconduct last month.

Soboyisa said the matter is being handled by an independent chairperson. He said the municipality is aware of public interest, and keeps the media updated.

Cwele, the wife of State Security Minister Siyabongwa Cwele, was suspended from work in May after being convicted and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for drug trafficking with her co-accused Frank Nabolisa.

Both have been granted leave to appeal with Cwele out on bail of R100 000.

In mid-June her salary was suspended, but was reinstated later in the month after she took her employers to the labour court.
