No results for some

2012-01-06 00:00

PARENTS and pupils at the Arthur Blaxall School in Mountain Rise were left seething after the school’s matric results were not published in the media yesterday.

It is suspected that a computer glitch at the Education Department data capturing offices failed to register some of the marks, which made the result incomplete and hence not published.

At least 12 pupils were affected. Some called the school principal to find out what was happening.

A parent who declined to be named said, “This was very depressing for the learners. We went to check the result only to find the school was not in the paper.

“The children have applied to the tertiary institutions to study further and now we are stuck here without the results.”

Pupils who also did not want to be named said they had to call the principal to find out about their results. “The principal was not sure what had happened and went to the department offices to collect our statement and phone us.

“When he called me with the result, three of my marks were missing,” said one

A source close to the school said they suspect that the error occurred during the data capturing phase.

“Perhaps the person who was capturing these subjects failed to do it properly leading to some of the marks being left out. The school management will have to go back to the department to recapture the marks accurately and print out new records for the students.”

Education spokesperson Sihle Mlotshwa said the mistake was unfortunate and he regretted the distress it caused for the pupils.

“The matter will have to be investigated and corrected urgently so pupils can have their result. We are duty bound to investigate and resolve this matter speedily.”
