No room for complacency

2011-01-27 00:00

HOPEFULLY the Sunfoil Schools match this afternoon/evening will take place. Three matches this week have been cancelled with the six sides that would have been involved to share the points.

This afternoon St Charles will play the President’s XI. Both teams lost their first-round matches, St Charles against Westville and the President’s XI against Glenwood. If they do play it will be an important game to win to make the semi-finals.

St Charles should win the game on paper, but a sparkling batting performance or an inspirational few overs by a bowler from the President’s XI could change the outcome of the match. So the favourites must not be complacent this evening.

Both T20 matches that had been scheduled for yesterday were postponed due to the rain and will now be played at the Maritzburg Oval on Sunday. This will make a pleasant day’s outing to see the four major cricketing schools in the region in frenzied action.

The morning game starting at 10 o’clock will be between last year’s KZN winners and losing national finalists, Maritzburg College against Michaelhouse. The afternoon game starting at 2 o’clock will be between St Charles and Hilton.

The winners of these two games then face one another on Monday afternoon in the KZN Inland final. The Inland winners will then play the KZN Coastal winners to see who will represent the Dolphins franchise in the Standard Bank National competition, where the six franchises will be represented. — OC.
