Nominations invited for KZN Heritage Awards

NOMINATIONS from the public for KwaZulu-Natal’s annual Heritage Awards have been called for by Amafa/Heritage KZN, the provincial heritage agency.

Individuals or groups that have been involved in heritage projects in their communities, in KwaZulu-Natal, on a voluntary (unpaid) basis for a sustainable period are eligible for nomination.

Heritage projects should include maintenance and protection of resources such as:

• Buildings that are 60 years old and more;

• Archaeological and rock art sites;

• Important graves;

• Battlefields;

• Heritage objects older than 100 years; or

• Places of oral tradition.

The awards will be announced on September 20, at a ceremony at Ascot Inn Conference Centre, Pietermaritzburg.
