Northdale: Police raid alleged drug dealer’s home

2011-02-15 00:00

A SUSPECTED Northdale drug dealer was arrested yesterday afternoon after police swooped on his Jinah Road house and found mandrax tablets and dagga.

A special projects team made up of police members from the Mountain Rise police station raided the 45-year-old man’s home at about 2 pm and found 32 mandrax tablets and 104 sticks of dagga.

Pipes apparently used to smoke crack cocaine were also found in the house.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said the special projects team had been monitoring the suspect’s house for about a week before pouncing on him and making the arrest.

She said the suspect is known in the area for allegedly dealing in drugs.

Jeevan issued a stern warning to drug dealers, saying that the newly-appointed Mountain Rise station commissioner, Brigadier Francis Bantham, has instructed police members at the station to adopt a zero tolerance stance against drug dealers in the area.

“The commissioner has sent out a strong message that those dealing in drugs will be caught, charged and will face the full might of the law,” said Jeevan.

When the police raided the suspect’s home, he remained quietly on his verandah while the special projects team members took video footage and photographs of where the drugs were allegedly found.

When The Witness took photographs of drugs placed in police exhibits bags, the suspect cautioned the photographer not to take a photograph showing his face.

“If I see a photo of me in The Witness tomorrow [today] I am going to take action,” he said.

Jeevan said the man will appear in the Pietermaritzurg Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in mandrax and dagga.
