ODI: two New additions to dolphins squad

2011-11-30 00:00

THE Dolphins have included Mthokozisi Shezi and Cody Chetty in their squad to take on the Cobras in tonight’s One-Day Cup clash at Newlands.

They come into the team at the expense of Robbie Frylinck and Imran Tahir.

Coach Graham Ford said the performances of Chetty and Shezi in the three-day provincial tournament have not gone unnoticed.

“This is now their opportunity to prove themselves and make a challenge for a regular spot in the team,” said Ford.

Since their exit from the One-Day Cup, Ford said they have moved on, and are building their side towards next year’s Twenty20 tournament.

He said a major part of the Twenty20 campaign will be learning from seasoned players Chris Gayle and Shaun Tait.

“A lot of people asked what the point of having Gayle and Tait only for the Twenty20 tournament is. I think that the lessons that the younger players in the squad can learn from these guys is invaluable.

“Much like Kevin Pietersen’s stint for the Dolphins last year — he only played two games. But the value that batsmen like Imraan Khan and Ahmed Amla picked up from him have made them better players,” said Ford.

Most of the teams have seasoned professionals that players can turn to for advice through pressure situations.

“Young players in the Lions team can turn to guys like Steven Cook who has played for them since 2000. Neil McKenzie and Alviro Peterson have also played on the domestic scene for a long time. The Warriors can call on the experience of Nicky Boje, Johan Botha and Makhaya Ntini,” said Ford.

Sunfoil Dolphins squad:

Imraan Khan (Captain), Daryn Smit, David Miller, Loots Bosman, Kyle Abbott, Cameron Delport, Friedel de Wet, Keshav Maharaj, Dane Paterson, Khaya Zondo, Mthokozisi Shezi, Cody Chetty.
