Obituary: Comrades member dies

2014-12-09 00:00

TOPSY Baillon, a life member of the Comrades Marathon Association, died last week Wednesday at the age of 81 after a short illness.

Baillon was born in Arusha, Tanzania. She worked as a secretary at J. Leslie Smith Attorneys in Pietermaritzburg for 38 years and “was deeply passionate about the Comrades Marathon”, the organisation said.

Baillon was involved in the race organising committee since 1980. She served on various portfolios, including refreshment stations and marshalling and also assisted at the Green Number Club.

Her son, Gerry Baillon, said: “My mom will be remembered for many things: her stubbornness, fastidiousness and her love for hot curries — the hotter the better.”

Baillon is survived by her three sons, Gerry, Anthony and Leslie, two grandchildren, Holly and Michael, as well as her two sisters, Sylvia and Helen.
