POLOKWANE — A senior official in the Limpopo premier’s office and two fuel pump attendants had been arrested for alleged fuel card fraud.

The commercial crimes unit of the Hawks had arrested the attendants, Freddy Mokonyama and Elias Thema.

Obedia Mamabolo, the senior official, allegedly defrauded the premier’s office with transactions involving R27 000.

Mamabolo had allegedly given government fuel cards to Mokonyama and Thema and they used them to pay for fuel.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said the premier’s office gave the commercial crimes unit information on the alleged fraud three months ago.

The three men briefly appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court and were released on bail of R500 each. The will appear again on March 10.
