Ogle this: PMB man on celeb list

2012-07-19 00:00

DESPITE fears that he wouldn’t make it, Pietermaritzburg pop artist Mario Ogle will be on SABC1’s reality show, Tropika Island of Treasure 5.

Ogle is one of seven celebrities, including Pearl Thusi and AKA, and other contestants competing for R1 million on the show, which will be shot in Jamaica later this year.

Speaking to The Witness, Ogle said his inclusion in the show is “mind-blowing” and that he didn’t think he would be chosen.

“It is amazing. I was under the impression that I wouldn’t get in. I told myself that there are bigger celebrities than me. But I am very excited.”

Last season’s winner was local music producer and composer Nolan Jonathan.

Ogle’s manager was contacted a few months ago by the organisers of the show and was told the singer had to go for an interview.

Weeks after the interview he was told that he had made it in.

Ogle not only sees this as a great opportunity that will boost his career, but also as something that comes once in a lifetime.

“I am excited that I can represent such big brands. This is going to elevate my personal brand. It will expose me to more people and give me an opportunity to grow.”

While other contestants might already be plotting their strategies for the show, Ogle said he just wanted to remain true to himself.

“I will not let anyone change who I am. I will just take everyday as a challenge. I just want to be me,” said Ogle, who just released his second album Superman.

He has already grown to like the other celebrities he will be competing against. He said: “They are very cool and good people.”

Although he admits they get along, he still knows that this is a competition and that winning the money would come in handy.
