One dead, four hurt in Umgeni Road crash

2013-11-04 00:00

A WOMAN in her 20s died and four other people are recovering at King Edward Hospital and Addington Hospital in Durban when a vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier in Umgeni Road yesterday morning.

Rescue Care paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the woman died at the scene at a construction site in Umgeni Road just before the N2 bridge.

Two of the occupants were still trapped in the wreckage when the paramedics arrived and the jaws of life were used to free them.

“A young lady who had been ejected from the wreckage had sustained fatal injuries and had passed away before the paramedics arrived,” he said.

The injured were treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident had not yet been established.

Police were investigating, said Jamieson.
