One dies, 28 injured on KZN roads

ONE person died and 28 other people were seriously injured in road accidents in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

At the intersection of Berea and Essenwood roads in Durban, 25 people were injured when a car and a minibus taxi side-swiped one another and another minibus taxi drove into them.

On the R66/34 near kwaNdundulu in Zululand, a truck driver died after his brakes failed, causing him to be involved in a head-on collision with another truck.

Transport Department spokeswoman Zihle Mngomezulu said the driver died on impact and was trapped in the truck after it had overturned.

Along the R612 Jolivet Road, three people were critically injured when three vehicles were involved in a pile-up.

Mngomezulu said the cause of the accident is unknown as yet and the matter is under investigation.
