THIS weekend several of the Hilton gardens open for the annual Witness Open Garden season, as well as gardens in the city and midlands area.

Brochures listing all of the open gardens are available from The Witness, participating garden centres and Pietermaritzburg publicity, as well as from Berry’s Mowers and Gardens at 3 Chapel street.

While you’re there be sure to enter The Witness/Berry’s Mowers and Pools open garden competition where you stand the chance of winning a ride-on mower as well as other fabulous prizes.

The competition closes at the end of October so be sure to enter now to win over R40 000 in prizes.

Highlights this weekend include the beautiful rose gardens of Dawn Pellew and Mike and Gill Wilson, Rosehurst, and the garden of Tim and Sabine Featherby. Furthermore, it is the last chance to visit the spectacular garden of John and Jenny Robinson, the Benvie garden in the Karkloof.

With 30 hectares of garden and thousands of azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons in full bloom, this is a great attraction for Open Gardens.

Several of the gardens also host tea-gardens and many have plants of special varieties on sale during the Open Garden season.
