Oscar did not take ‘acting lessons’ for his trial

OSCAR Pistorius did not take “acting lessons” in preparation for his trial, his family said, responding to a claim made by Jani Allan in a blog entry that was run in The Witness on Monday under the headline “Cut from the same cloth”.

The family issued a statement regarding the blog entry via their spokesperson Anneliese Burgess.

The blog entry took the form of a letter to Pistorius in which Allan referred to him as being “cut from the same cloth” as AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche, a man she once thought “was a leader and an inspiration to his people” but who turned out to have clay feet once the going got tough, and who frequently resorted to tears.

Allan went on to berate Pistorius for his behaviour in court, adding that “I have it from a reliable source that you are taking acting lessons for your days in court. Your coach has an impossible task.”

The Pistorius family have taken exception to this, saying Allan’s “suggestion that Mr Pistorius ‘took acting lessons’ is totally devoid of any truth” and they further deny that he has “ undergone any ‘acting lessons’ or any form of emotional coaching”.

They added, “This type of comment makes a mockery of the enormous human tragedy involving the Steenkamp family and our client and his family.”

While the family does not engage with the rest of the blog content they do “deny in the strongest terms the contents of [Allan’s] letter in as far it relates” to Pistorius.

The trial of Pistorius, in which he is accused of the murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, in his Pretoria townhouse on February 14 last year, resumes on May 5.
