Otto’s Bluff Road blockade finally cleared

2014-09-11 00:00

CLARIDGE residents were able to travel along the Otto’s Bluff road yesterday after the municipality cleared the blockade set up by land invaders in the Woodlands area.

There was also a strong police presence in the area, closely monitoring the situation yesterday.

Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu expressed concern over the growing trend of communities barricading public roads during protests in the province.

Mchunu said he was most concerned by the criminality and violence that accompanied the road blockades.

“The growing trend of protestors barricading roads is worrisome. This act does not only infringe on the right of other road users, but it also affects the economy of the province. I appeal to the people of this province to use peaceful means to voice their grievances and avoid blocking roads,” he said.
