Out on bail: Cops charged with fraud

2010-03-30 00:00

TWO Mountain Rise police inspectors who were arrested at the weekend appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with allegations of theft and fraud.

It is alleged that they submitted false claims for informer fees to the tune of R73 000 between October 2007 and June 2009.

Inspector Rajesh Ramchandra (41) and Inspector Ravi Pather (40) were not asked to plead to any charges and the case was postponed to April 13 for further investigation.

Ramchandra was granted bail of R10 000 and Pather R5 000.
