Oval stadium: Stolen pitch covers found

2011-11-29 00:00

PITCH covers costing thousands of rands that were stolen from the PMB Oval cricket stadium on October 31 have been recovered.

KZN Inland Cricket Union marketing and media manager Alicia Rugbeer said the covers were found in an open space in the Camperdown area yesterday morning.

“Unfortunately the covers had been cut into small pieces, making them unusable. The pitch covers were used to cover the pitches in the training facilities located on the outskirts of the Oval,” said Rugbeer. She said a special machine will be needed to repair the covers.

The Witness reported early this month that the covers had been stolen.

Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan confirmed the recovery, but said the police have yet to confirm whether the covers were those stolen from the Oval. — WR.
