Over 11?000 to be capped

MORE than 11 000 students will graduate with degrees and diplomas across the province this month.

More than seven thousand will be getting their degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal this month.

Nineteen graduation ceremonies are planned for the next month as students reap the rewards of their studies.

More than 7 470 graduates, will receive both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the Pietermaritzburg and Westville campuses.

The Durban University of Technology will award diplomas to more than 4 500 students across six faculties at their ceremonies, which will be held from April 18 to 21 at the Steve Biko Campus in Durban and on April 14 at the Indumiso, Midlands, Campus.

The UKZN’s seven days of graduation ceremonies, which started yesterday, kicked off with the capping of graduates of the faculties of science and agriculture, and of engineering.

The faculties of education and of the humanities, development and social science are expected to confer the most degrees at 1 641 and 1 898 respectively.

The law and medical faculties have the fewest graduates — only 283 and 401 respectively.

A total of 155 doctoral degrees will be awarded in total by the UKZN this year, while those who graduate cum laude and summa cum laude will be 321.

The largest number of DUT graduates come from the management science faculty with 1 394, including one doctor of technology, while the faculty of applied sciences will have the fewest, at 273.
