Overloads: power fails in six suburbs

2011-07-27 00:00

SEVERAL suburbs in Pietermaritzburg were without electricity for a few hours yesterday evening.

Complaints were received from Montrose, Oak Park, Chase Valley and parts of Northdale and Prestbury. Sweetwaters residents said they hadn’t had electricity since Monday evening.

Attempts to get comment from the Msunduzi Municipality about the power outages were unsuccessful at the time of going to print.

Municipal electricians told The Witness that the power would be restored by 7.30 last night. By 8.30 pm, however, parts of Oak Park were still without power.

The electricians said the outages were caused when cables became overloaded as a result of the cold weather. — Witness Reporter.
