Owner, driver killed in taxi shootout

TWO more people were killed yesterday in the standoff between taxi factions in the Mpumalanga area near Hammarsdale.

A taxi owner and his driver were shot dead yesterday morning and police are investigating two cases of murder.

The two men are identified as taxi owner Gilbert Khuboni (63) and driver Bongani Ngwenya (37).

“The motive of their killing is unknown and two counts of murder have been opened at Mpumalanga Police Station,” said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane.

No arrests have yet been made, he said. — WWR.
