PMB: Major water pipe burst on alan paton drive

2008-06-16 00:00

A major water pipe burst on Alan Paton Drive near Blackburrow Road yesterday morning, leaving large areas of Hayfields and Scottsville without water from 6 am.

A spokesperson from the fire department told The Witness that it initially took some time to identify why taps were dry. Municipal workers first checked the reservoir that supplies the area, only to find that it was full. Later it was discovered that the underground pipe in Alan Paton Drive had burst.

Municipal manager Rob Haswell said water tankers were sent to the affected areas while repairs were under way. The water supply was reported to have been reinstated late yesterday.

Meanwhile, people in Mount Michael were without power or phones for the day, but the cause of the outage could not be ascertained last night.
