PMB accused man ‘fouls’ the law

2008-02-08 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG man Gerald Moodley (33), who faces seven charges of robbing people of cellphones, yesterday morning allegedly pulled faeces out of the back of his trousers and fouled staff and objects in the magistrate’s court with it.

The prosecutor and personnel in the court were hit. Their gowns, other clothes, documents and furniture were fouled, but the magistrate escaped.

Moodley allegedly fouled the court soon after he was brought up from the cells. He will be charged with contempt of court.

An official said yesterday afternoon that Moodley’s fouled shoes and trousers were left in the dock and the stench in the courtroom was horrendous.

Victims’ names are withheld.

Officials could not say whether the court would be cleaned sufficiently for it to be used today.

Officials said he was previously sent for mental observation, but he was found fit to stand trial.
