PMB cime intelligence raid delivers R200?000 in stolen goods

2011-02-07 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG crime intelligence unit made a major breakthrough when they swooped on a flat in Langabilele Street early yesterday morning.

The raid resulted in the arrest of a Congolese national who was found to be possession of 38 cellphones, digital cameras, plasma TVs, laptops, hi-fi equipment and other electronic equipment worth nearly R200 000 — all of it allegedly stolen.

The unit had been monitoring the suspect for nearly three months before making the raid.

In another bust on Saturday afternoon, at the Beer Hall in Retief Street, a woman who was under police surveillance was apprehended and found in possession of Mandrax tablets, crack cocaine and “sugars” and car hi-fi equipment.

Early yesterday morning another woman was arrested with 15 pieces of crack cocaine and R2 000 in cash in her possession.

The unit is appealing to people who might recognise the items to call its officers at Jabu Ndlovu (Loop) Street police station.
