PMB crash: Deputy minister shaken

2013-02-09 00:00

DEPUTY Energy Minister Barbara Thompson was badly shaken after a car accident yesterday evening.

She had landed at Pietermaritzburg Airport and was going home to Eastwood.

Thompson told Weekend Witness the driver of the other vehicle was “terribly drunk” and was driving in the wrong lane when he swerved and hit her car.

“He almost killed us. I still don’t know how we managed to get out. Thank God,” she said, adding that the rented Lexus was a write-off. All three people in the car were unharmed.

“This is how people die.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan confirmed the driver of the other vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving.
