PMB dealership scores big

2012-03-27 00:00

AN ethos centred on transparency and dealings with clients was the driving force behind the success of city motor dealership McCarthy Renault Pietermaritzburg, which has thrived in this competitive industry.

The dealership scooped five remarkable awards at Renault South Africa’s Club of Diamonds annual awards in Johannesburg recently.

Staff members from the dealership walked away with three sales-related awards and two service department-related awards.

Dominic Raw won service manager of the year, while Sherene Lucas was named service advisor of the year. Remarkably, Raw and Lucas have won their respective category awards for the past five years.

Zakir Rahiman (used car sales manager), Yagan Padayachee (new vehicle sales manager) and Neil Pandaram (used car sales executive) each won national sales excellence awards at the event.

The achievements follow hot on the heels of another city-based motor dealership’s award-winning accomplishments.

Mercedes Benz South Africa (MBSA) dealership Garden City Commercials earlier this year won a hat-trick of national MBSA awards.

The dealership scooped up dealer of the year, the group chairperson’s 2012 award and the 2012 group’s dealer of the year for the Freightliner Fuso Market Centre.

Raw, who is the after-sales manager at McCarthy Renault Pietermaritzburg, told The Witness yesterday the dealership competed against 52 other dealerships across South Africa.

He said their service level was based on maximising the quality of interactions with customers.

Raw said: “We always want to treat each customer as an individual.

“We want to make them feel like they are part of our family.

“We give 110% in our efforts and perform to the best of our ability. The focus on service is important.

“When it comes to servicing your car, it is generally a grudge purchase, because you can’t see the results of the service when you drive off after servicing your car.”

Transparency remained a core value. “Customers are increasingly aware of their rights, and we also educate them about their rights and responsibilities,” he said.

Raw emphasised the importance of building relationships with customers, saying: “We have a lot of return customers.

“There are many who come to us via word of mouth, and through friends and family.”

McCarthy Renault Pietermaritzburg — which employs 23 staff members — outperformed the national average of 15,9% in terms of year-on-year sales growth in 2011.

Raw said the city dealership increased sales by about 18% last year and that they aim to grow sales by about 20% this year.

Raw said they would like to secure the dealer of the year award.

The dealership, which opened its doors in 2006, won the dealer of the year award in 2008 and 2009.

He said the business had a healthy market share in the city and that the Sandero range had helped them boost sales volumes.
