PMB hopefuls fall short at Miss SA interviews

KWAZULU-NATAL’S hopes at this year’s Miss South Africa pageant lie squarely on the shoulders of Durban-born beauties, after Pietermaritzburg girls fell short in the beauty race.

Karmen Moodley and Nataschia Beukman were unable to make the top 12 cut in the final interview section at Sun City on Thursday before the official Miss South Africa ceremony, which will be broadcast live on SABC 3 on December 13.

Former Voortrekker pupil Beukman (21) expressed disappointment at not making the top 12 cut, but described the journey as a great experience.

“I’m disappointed, but it is not the end of my life. I’m still positive. I won’t let it get me down.”

While she is not sure whether she will attempt the competition again next year, she said she learned a lot by participating in Miss South Africa.

But one thing she is sure of, she will be holding her head up high as she continues her reign as Miss South Coast.

Moodley (23), who works as a supply chain administrator in the city, said she is sure she won’t be entering another Miss South Africa pageant, but she is grateful for the experience.

“It was a beautiful experience, but it was not for me. Not everyone can go through,” she said.
