PMB man’s car crashes into ATM

2013-06-13 00:00

DRIVING instructors always tell you to pull up your handbrake when you leave your car parked on an incline.

A Pietermaritzburg man’s failure to do this left another man injured early yesterday evening.

Clyde Usher, who works at College Road Video, told The Witness that the man had parked his car and was going to do some shopping at a supermarket around 5pm.

“He didn’t pull his handbrake up, and as he was entering the supermarket, his SUV ran back and crashed into the Absa ATM.”

Another man, who was busy withdrawing money from the ATM at that time, was pinned against the machine by the vehicle.

“The car hit the ATM with a bit of force and the guy was hurt badly,” said Usher.

“An officer arrived to take photos of the scene, and she and the driver of the car went to Alexandra Police Station to take down his statement,” she said.

The man hurt at the ATM was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The crash made a loud bang, and the immediate aftermath, with teeming ambulances, tow trucks and a dented ATM, attracted a crowd of people.
