PMB nurse to return from India

2014-03-05 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG nurse Isra Devi Lutchman, who was arrested in India after a bullet was found in her luggage, is expected to return to South Africa later this week.

Lutchman (62) has been in India since February 19 when she was arrested at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport.

On Friday, a Delhi court granted her permission to return to South Africa on condition she pays R70 000 as security to stand trial in India. Lutchman’s family have managed to raise the funds and she will return home this week with her son Colin, and friends Pranil Maharaj and Rumen Maistry, who had all travelled to India to accompany her to court.

Her husband, Spaga, who owns a dog grooming parlour, however, has since had a heart attack and is recovering in St Anne’s Hospital’s intensive care unit, where Lutchman works. He is in a serious but stable condition.
