PMB sides expected to do well in today’s two ties

2013-05-18 00:00

THERE are just two school hockey matches in the province today with one in the capital and the other in Durban. Two local teams are in Gauteng and their matches should be in better weather than the two in KZN, where rain is again forecast. Three of the Independent Schools — Michaelhouse, Hilton and St Charles — are taking their mid-term break.

The battle between rivals DHS and Glenwood takes place on the DHS home surface. On results DHS have not had a good season while Glenwood have lost just once against Paul Roos. Both teams were affected by the weather last weekend with neither having a match so they will relish the match today.

Maritzburg College host King Edward in a game that should go the way of the home side. College have not had the dominance they normally enjoy, but have won nine matches with just three losses and four draws. KES, on the other hand, have won two games only, losing seven matches of the 11 played. Both sides drew with Selborne, lost against Wynberg and in the third common fixture against Grey HS, College won and KES lost.

Kearsney travel to Johannesburg and Northwood to Pretoria. Kearsney will play St Stithians today while Northwood will play St Albans tomorrow.

St Stithians, having lost both games against Maritzburg College and Pretoria BHS by one goal, are likely to give Kearsney a tough match particularly on their home pitch.
