PMB to host 2011 world cup

2010-06-22 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG has been earmarked as one of the venues to host the 2011 UCI Mountain Biking World Cup, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said in its website recently.

This development has set the spotlight on South Africa again after it was last listed for the global biking spectacle on the UCI 2009 calendar.

The anticipated event will comprise three categories, namely: UCI Cross-Country (XCO) World Cup, UCI DHI (Downhill) World Cup and UCI 4x World Cup.

Unlike last year, the XCO and DHI challenges will each have seven rounds instead of six.

Other participating countries include France, America, England, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Canada and Australia.

The 2011 event will kick-start in Pietermaritzburg on April 23-24, with the finals taking place in Val Di Sole, Italy.
