PMB to host SA’s first ICT fair

2011-04-01 00:00

THE first information and communication technology (ICT) fair in South Africa, to be held in Pietermaritzburg, is intended to improve youth skills in the field.

The fair, which will bring together key players in the ICT fields, aims to look at how South Africa can develop its ICT infrastructure, to provide technology to more communities and how to equip youth to enter ICT workplaces.

Project co-ordinator Dennis Memela said at the fair’s media launch yesterday that the fair will also focus on skills development for the youth, with workshops allowing ICT companies to train youth in animation, game design and applications.

It will also run a computer building competition for high school learners.

Melanie Veness, chairperson of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Commerce, said the skills landscape is changing continuously, and the ICT fair will give businesses an opportunity find out about new developments.

The media launch was marked by a performance of the Valentine dancers from Isibongo Primary School.

The ICT Fair will take place at the Royal Showgrounds from May 10 to 14. More information is available at
