PMB's jet turned back

2007-11-16 00:00

SAA Airlink's new jet from O.R. Tambo to Pietermaritzburg was turned back without explanation last night. Passengers were stranded at the Johannesburg airport, while in Pietermaritzburg family members could not get answers from airline management.

Norma Houghton said: “My husband said the flight had been delayed and when it eventually took off, the plane stayed only 14 minutes in the air, turned back and landed at O.R. Tambo airport again. No explanation was given to passengers on why the plane had to turn back,” she said.

Another stranded passenger, Evan Rothman, told the paper: “The pilot did not tell us what was wrong when he turned around and 50 minutes later we are told that there is a ‘radar control error'.”

The Witness e-mailed questions to the airline's CEO, but no response was received last night.
