Pair escape injury after car crashes into Imbali house

2011-10-25 00:00

A DRIVER and his passenger escaped without injuries when the driver lost control of the car in Imbali 18 on Sunday afternoon. The car plunged into a nearby home and became lodged between the wall of the house and a donga in the road.

The driver, who declined to be named, said he was dropping off a friend who lives in the area. “It was about 7 pm and we were driving up this road. I do not know what happened. All I remember was the car in someone’s house lodged between the wall of the house and the donga.”

The driver said he had not been speeding when the accident happened. A community member who also declined to give his name said the road is in urgent need of speed humps.

“The road is treacherous. It starts off on the incline and it quickly flattens out; it often takes many drivers by surprise.”

He said this was not the first time an accident like this has happened.

“In the last four years, I have rebuilt the walls around the house at least four times because of the accidents happening here. All these accidents happen as these cars are driving up the incline. There is only one incident of a reckless driver who crashed going down this road.”

Brian Zuma, the spokesperson for the Msunduzi Municipality, said an application for the speed humps will have to be made.

He said there is a long list of applications and speed humps are built when resources become available.
