Park Rynie Hijack: Application for bail held over for fifth time

2012-05-04 00:00

THE bail application for hijacking and murder accused Sihle Nzimande (28) was postponed for the fifth time in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The case was adjourned to May 11 for the acting magistrate to receive a delegation from the Department of Justice.

Nzimande’s first appearance for a bail application was on April 13. During last week’s proceedings the defence called Nzimande’s traditional healer to testify on his behalf.

The defence argued that Nzimande suffered from convulsions that were treatable only by traditional medicine. He was remanded in police custody.

Nzimande and his co-accused, John Phineas Vezi (42), are charged with the hijacking and murder of Soomeshan Govender of Umkomaas. He was killed in Park Rynie on the morning of March 25.

Vezi abandoned his application for bail during his second court appearance. — Witness Reporter.
