Parked car suddenly lands in garden

2009-12-11 00:00

A CAR rolled from the side of the road where it was parked, crossed the road, ploughed through a concrete fence, and coasted into a yard, falling from a one metre high drop and smashing into the wall of a house before it stopped.

The owner of the VW Jetta, Quinton Dhari, had no idea that his car had crashed across the road from his house.

”A friend of mine called me and asked me where I was and I told him I was sitting at home. I was shocked when he told me my car had just crashed across the road from me.

“I don’t know what happened, but it rolled on its own and crossed the road. It was just fortunate that no vehicles were passing through when it crossed, otherwise there would have been a serious accident”.

A woman and her three-year-old granddaughter were in the house when the car smashed into the wall.

“I heard a loud bang outside and I thought it was my daughter’s car. I peeped through the window but I could not see anything, I ran towards the other side and I saw the car by the window facing the wall. I was looking for the driver, but there was no driver.

“While I was still wondering a man came running and told me it was his car.”

The car was standing on its wheels in the yard between the wall of the house and the drop.

The elderly woman was traumatised by the incident but she was relieved that no one was harmed.

No major damage was done to the house, except for the fence being flattened and the car was scratched on the front and sides.
