Parties pay tribute

2009-12-17 00:00

POLITICAL parties in the province added their voices as tributes continue to pour in for the death of former minister of Health, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang.

Lucky Gabela, Cope’s KZN provincial chairman, paid tribute to Tshabalala-Msimang’s contribution to the struggle while she was in exile.

He said she was very useful in having guided others and played an active role in NGOs. “She will be missed a lot.”

John Steenhuisen, Democratic Alliance caucus leader in the KZN legislature, described Tshabalala-Msimang as a controversial figure in the country’s history. “Hopefully a very sad chapter of South Africa’s can now be closed for good,” he said.

The DA’s Mike Water, a vociferous critic of Tshabalala-Msimang, declined to comment.

IFP spokesman Reverend Musa Zondi said the party has received the news with shock. “Our hearts, deep thoughts and condolences first and foremost, go to her husband and children, and secondly to the ANC.”
