2008-06-19 00:00

PASTOR Nadasen Dorasamy (better known as “Bobby”) who died recently, founded the Revival Tabernacle in Northdale in 1979 and was a tireless preacher.

Dorasamy, one of seven children, was born in Pentrich in 1934 and was educated at St Paul’s school and at the school that later became Woodlands High.

He converted to Christianity in 1947 and became a member of the Obededom Temple. At the age of 15 he began doing outreach work in the Ocketskraal, Mkondeni and Municipal Farm areas, and later in Howick, Cedara, Lions River, Balgowan and Mooi River, often hitching lifts as he had no other transport.

In 1964 he married Radha Soobramoney Marie and they had three children — Rebekah, Salome and Jude.

From that time, he began holding services in homes in Howick West and in the seventies joined the Carmel Temple and worked in the Raisethorpe, Newholmes and Dunveria areas, said Pastor Jonathan Nathaniel.

He and his wife started the Revival Tabernacle in 1979, and still with no transport, Pastor Bobby worked in the Copesville, Mountain Rise and Northdale areas, often walking long distances.

Aside from his church work, Dorasamy was a keen sportsman in his younger days, playing football for Crusaders club and participating in road running.

The pastor is survived by his wife, son, daughters, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, two granddaughters, three grandsons, a sister and a brother.
