Payment system for KZN back working

2013-09-02 00:00

THE electronic payment system used by the government, which was down for five days from last Sunday, is again up and running.

According to Musa Cebisa, the communications manager at KZN Provincial Treasury, the state electronic system was fixed on Friday. The failure meant government departments could not capture and approve payments for businesses that had done work for them.

The Provincial Treasury in turn could not release the payment run to the bank for the electronic transfer of funds.

“The [system] has been working since Friday afternoon, and the payments have been captured. We will only know if the payments have been released on Monday [today],” Cebisa told The Witness.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Finance, Ina Cronjé apologised in a statement: “The system [was] down and this is a national Sita [State Information Technology Agency] problem. The National Treasury and Sita are urgently addressing the problem. I acknowledge the inconvenience this has caused, and I convey my sincere apology to all those affected by this situation.”
