Pensions: mec brings officials to township

2010-05-26 00:00

KZN Social Development MEC Meshack Hadebe and members of the parliamentary oversight committee on social development visited Mpumalanga township in Hammarsdale yesterday to launch programmes aimed at tackling the backlog in the approval of pensions.

The launch comes after a visit by the MEC to the area last week, which revealed that residents are struggling to gain access to social services.

Yesterday, he took civil servants from the Home Affairs Department and the SA Social Security Agency to the township to attend to the thousands of community members who had packed the Mpumalanga sports ground. Radebe pledged R6 million for the construction of new social development offices in the area.
