Pensions snags: fund bosses to meet members

2010-10-07 00:00

THOUSANDS of members of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) in KwaZulu-Natal who are experiencing problems with their claims are expected to converge at three different venues where senior officials of the scheme are set to address them this weekend.

GEPF said in a statement that officials are set to spend the whole of Saturday — from 8 am to 4 pm — with their members.

The three venues are Imbali Hall (Unit 1) in Pietermaritzburg, uMlazi Cinema Hall and at Ulundi Multipurpose Hall.

GEPF’s manager for media and external stakeholders’ relations, Ofentse Seleka, said the purpose of the campaign is to enhance the pension fund’s interaction with its stakeholders and members of the public, to share information about services and benefits, and to update members’ contact details.

The GEPF has an estimated 222 200 members in KZN.

Among the crucial issues that are expected to be raised at the meetings is that of delays in pension payouts.

Some GEPF members in KZN continue to wait more two years for their pay-outs.
