People: Famous faces in the crowd

2008-06-15 00:00

Among the runners were singer Kabelo, who came in in under 10 hours, Egoli star David Vlok, nine-times Comrades winner Bruce Fordyce, 5Fm DJ Koula and eNews presenter Redi Direko.

Koula, who had run the marathon for the second time, was all smiles as she crossed the line with an injured knee. “Anyone who said the uphill race is better to run, I don’t understand,” she said.

First-time runner Direko shared Koula’s sentiments about it being a tough race, but seemed to have caught the Comrades bug as she said she is looking forward to competing again next year.

An athlete popularly known by regular Comrades supporters as the “man in the suit”, told the crowd that he has run and completed the marathon for 24 consecutive years, 12 in a suit and sneakers.
