Peppy fun in musicians' rivalry

2008-10-02 08:04

Director Suneel Darshan has been struggling for the past few years to strike the right chord at the box office. This time he explores the ugliness of the cut-throat music industry based on the Hollywood flick Amadeus. It's a modern-day story set in the U.S., but actually filmed in South Africa. The film focuses on the complex relationship of two different men who have one thing in common - a passion for music.

AJ (Bobby Deol) is the king of music in New York - he has adulation, praise, money and power. AJ is notably one of the best singers and composers the music industry has ever possessed. Reggie (Upen Patel) is a young and over-ambitious man who is willing to do anything to be at the No. 1 position in the music world. Reggy has the burning desire for what AJ has.

Sheena (Celina Jaitley), a PR professional, befriends Reggie and promotes him in the music world. Then there's Ruhi (Kangana Ranaut), an upcoming star who admires AJ, but is wooed by Reggie.

With these two ravishing women entering AJ and Reggie's life, there's a twist in the tale, which is followed by various emotions, manipulation, desperation, jealousy and anger.

Bobby Deol gives a superb performance and is brilliant with his negative shades in character. Upen Patel is carving a niche for himself in Bollywood - watch out for this new kid on the block. The ladies - Kangana and Celina - just add oomph to the film.

Suneel Darshan's concept of two musicians at war is a fresh subject for Bollywood - it has nothing to do with Shah Rukh Khan and Big B rivalry. The film is glossy with mind-blowing locations despite an average script.

This film is a good entertainer with peppy music and will go down well with the younger generation.
