Peter Brown biography launched

2010-11-06 00:00

THE biography on one of South Africa’s leading liberals, Peter Brown, was launched yesterday.

Brown’s widow, Phoebe is pictured with the author Michael Cardo (seated) and her son Chris.

The launch was held at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus and organised by the Alan Paton Centre and Struggle Archives.

Brown was instrumental in setting up the centre. Cardo in his address noted that South Africa’s Constitution is based on liberal values.

He also said Brown in 1996 predicted there would be a time when the ANC might start to disintegrate or become ridden with factionalism.

There may be an opportunity then to have a fully non-racial Liberal Party. “Time will tell if he will be proved right about this,”Cardo said.
