SIXTEEN taxi passengers were injured when a minibus collided with a car in Peter Kerchhoff Street yesterday afternoon.
It is not clear what caused the accident, but police at the scene said it seemed that one of the vehicles had run a red robot.
The car collided with the back of the taxi, causing it to roll twice.
The driver of the taxi suffered a severed finger.
ER24 medics said they arrived at the scene to find all the commuters outside the vehicle.
It is believed that they had been thrown out on impact.
The car came to a rest a few metres away with extensive damage.
Two commuters needed advanced life support intervention to be stabilised further.
Five other patients, including the car’s driver, suffered serious injuries and were treated for suspected neck and back injuries.
The remaining nine commuters from the taxi sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Later, four people were injured, one seriously, in a collision at the intersection of Alexandra Road Extension and Murray Road, Chris Botha of Netcare 911 reported.
